Green Island Wins 2018 Albany County Tap Water Taste Contest Again

Congratulations to the Green Island Water Department for being voted as First Place Winners in the 2018 Albany County Tap Water Taste Contest. They have won this honor for two of the last three years. This year’s runner up was our friends from the City of Cohoes who came in a close second. Ironically, we also purchase secondary water from Cohoes, giving us two quality sources of water. The Village of Green Island will now move onto the regional contest held this summer which will eventually decide who has the best drinking water in New York. In 2004, Green Island won both the County and Regional competition and advanced to the state finals at the New York State Fair, finishing second overall. Water Plant Operators John Heffern and Robert Foster and their entire team are hopeful of winning our first state championship this year. Win or lose, they should be commended for providing us with safe, fresh and great tasting water every day.
